- The third estate made up 98% of the population of france, but they were the poorest group of the estates, everyone was starving because they didnt have much money to buy food or clothes.
- the king at the time of the revolution, Louis XVI. made tings worse for france altogether, and even tried to flee but failed.
- the queen at the time wasnt even royalty, she was originally from Austria.
- Louis had gotten so overwhelmed by the people of the third estate, that Louis had kicked them out of the kingdom out to the rain, it was then that the third estate mob had went to the royal tennis court and promised to stay there until a new constitution was made
- Louis agreed, but knew that it wasn't going to be peaceful, so to be cautious, he had told Austria to have Austrian soldiers on the border in case of an outrage.
- When Louis met with Austria, a journalist named Desmoulin had overheard what he had said, and being an instigator he had told the third estate to arm themselves because Austria was coming to attack them
- the people were scared, so they marched down to the Bastille, an armory/prison in france. afterwards, they burned the bastille, and killed the nobles in it aswell as many of the nobles homes.
- this was known as the great fear, for all three estates, the clergy was afraid of the third estate revolting, the nobles were afraid of being killed by the third estate, and the third estate was afraid of Austrian soldiers coming to kill the third estate to solve the problems for the rest of france
