- MOTIVE 1 - After the Black Plague occurred, in the 15th century Venice dominated spice trade and Genoa shifted focus to finance. This creating an increase in the sea trade to India since the purpose was to obtain Indian Spices
- MOTIVE 2 - Because of the Renaissance a curiosity was brought up among Christian's and Protestant's. Both migrated to the west to spread their religious in good terms with others.
- TECHNOLOGY - The magnetic compass and astrolabes were both used for navigation towards the ocean. Both made the navigation/location of somewhere more easier, making trade increase through the ocean
- Portugal - By 1400s Portugal was strong to expand Muslim control in North America. Henry the Navigator was hoping to spread Christianity and find Muslim gold, he began school for cartographers, sailors and captains.
- Italy - Columbus wanted to spread his nationality (Italy) to the west side. He also wanted to find a better route to travel to India
- SPAIN - Hernando Cortes was in search of gold from India, he colonized the Africa Empire and west wards. Soon Cortes took the empire out with small box in were the Indigenous were not strong enough for
