  • The turtle reluctantly divided the tree in half. The monkey took the upper green part and left the tower part-the part with no branches to the turtle. She didn't feel like arguing with the cunning monkey. She was too tired after hauling it and a little sad to lose part of her banana treasure. She just planted the rest of the tree in her garden and waited for some budding leaves to sprout.

  • It wasn't long before the green part that the monkey owned started wilting and wrinkling.

  • All of the leaves fell off within days and he was left with only a dried-out trunk that was useless. The painted turtle was a lot more successful.
