  • Unprepared for war
  • Battle of Lake Erie - Sept. 1813
  • Battle of Horseshoe Bend - Early 1814
  • The fighting force was small and unprepared. They were poorly trained, and Commanders that had served in the Revolutionary War were too old to fight again. They underestimated the power of the British and the Native American Allies.
  • White House burned 8/1814
  • Oliver Hazard Perry, the Commander of Lake Erie Naval, had his orders. He assembled a fleet and planned to seize the lake from the British.
  • Treaty of Ghent, Dec. 1814
  • More than 550 Creek people died in the Battle of the Horseshoe bend. The Creeks were forced to give up most of their lands.
  • Battle of New Orleans, January 1815
  • The British burned down all buildings associated with the Government. They were set ablaze, some which was the Presidents Mansion and the Capitol. A thunderstorm put out the fires before it could burn it all down, though.
  • The Treaty of Ghent did not change any existing borders. The American and British signed a treaty to stop the war.
  • This was the final battle before the treaty. Andrew Jackson and his troops were waiting for the British. The British were no match for Andrews troops, as for they hid behind the thick cotton bales.
