- On September 16, 1810, Hidalgo would deliver a speech known as the Grito de dolores. He would gather an army of 90 thousand people and this day would mark the start of the fight for independence
- Hidalgo and his army would be defeated by the Spanish and Hidalgo would try to escape to the US. However, he was caught by the Spanish on the way there and executed by a firing squad
- Many would be inspired by Hidalgo, and creoles, rebel leaders, and the clergy would form an alliance to fight Spain
