- Hi, I'm Bob, I'm 18. I needed to volunteer somewhere to improve an application to a sixth form I was looking into, but I was turned down by every old peoples home, zoo, homeless shelter and coffee shop because of my disability. Then one of my mates told me about Give Back and now I attend to that school I wanted to go to and I get to hang out with my mates outside of school as well as some other guys who are super inclusive and welcoming.
- Hi, I'm Stu, I'm 14. I had way too much time on my hands and I needed a hobby but I couldn't think of anything new that I could do. I was so lonely so I couldn't really ask what other people did either. I saw a group of guys hanging around at the side of the road one day and I went up to ask what they were up to. Now I've got a group of friends and a cracking hobby, even if I am the youngest dude here.
- Hi, I'm Bil, I'm 16 and I'm Australian. I really wanted to give back (pun intended) to my local community after all they had done for my family during the lock down, and I'm also a fitness junkie so I spend most of my time outside. One day I was picking up a few bits of rubbish along the street when a car pulled up (I now know him as Bob) and told me about Give Back. It's 100% optional so no one cares if you miss a couple days or forget it's on, and I get to reward my community on a local basis for their generous efforts. We also each have a set job based on our preference and abilities.
- I'm the planner and organiser of the team. I call up who I need to beforehand to check that we are allowed to work in certain areas, I look at who's coming and who's not and make schedules based around the numbers of people there will be, and I also bring equipment or other things we may need such as umbrellas or grabbers.
- I've been assigned to the more hands-on, manual labour of the job. I do the digging, picking, carrying etc. I also hang up flyers or walk around town identifying spots that we might work on in the future.
- I bring food and drinks, help wherever someone's missing, for example today when there's only 4 of us which is quite small compared to usual. I also designed the logo like this one floating above my head. It's so easy to join, it's 100% optional and it's just fun to be here.
