Storyboard Text

  • Eggs
  • Larvae
  • Pupa
  • The eggs fall of of the host along with flea dirt. They can fall anywhere because they are not sticky.
  • Adult
  • The larva grows and molts from 9 to 200 days. They consume the flea dirt in order to survive.
  • Meal
  • The larva makes a cocoon and takes about 7 days pupating depending on climate. The warmer the better.
  • Finale
  • The adult emerges from the cocoon and finds a host. It jumps to the host to begin its meal.
  • The female takes a blood meal from the host and starts laying eggs. The eggs fall off the host because they are not sticky and the cycle begins again.
  • The cycle continues repeating and the fleas keep reproducing. One host may get rid of them, but they will continue to find their next victim. The cycle can be cut by flea medication, but will only stop for the fleas on that animal at that time.
