  • Native Americans felt mistreated and at the time, there was civil rights movements so it was right for them to start a movement to end abuse, inequality and discrimination and there the American Indian Movement was established
  • Native Americans would go in caravans to places like Washington DC to demand negotiations with the government to hold equality and justice for Native Americans. They would also go to court houses to make a point on why the death of their own kind was not handled properly.

The meeting in DC with White House officials were cancelled and AIM decided to crash into the BIA HQ and stay there for 4 days. There they threw things from the building at us to keep us out. • During each standoff, Native Americans participating in AIM would gather around and have their powwow. They would inspire each other and talk about what they're doing are related to Mother Earth and Father Sky's teachings. They would participate in Native American rituals and use that as a source of hope to get through their obstacles with the government.
