Storyboard Text

  • I have ADHD, so to write effectively I have to make sure my space, mentally and physically, is well equipped in order to help me. The first thing I do to prepare for working or writing is cleaning up my workspace, and making sure everything is tidy, and in it's right spot. That was I can find what I need easier.
  • I then change into comfy clothes, and open the curains to let natural light in. I don't like wearing anything too tight or scratchy. These feelings of discomfort distract me. I also find natural light improves my mind's clarity and produces more dopamine than artificial light.
  • Next I make sure I have all of the materials I will need for my task at arms length. If I have to go too far to get items, I will most likely get distracted on the way, and end up not completing my task until later.
  • I grab a snack, and my jug of water to keep on hand in case I get hungry or thirsty, for the same reason I get the other items on hand and ready for use. I also mute my phone, because my phone is my biggest distractor.
  • Listening to classical music, or nature sounds (any type of music or noise without lyrics) helps my brain stay on track. I put on my headphones and pull up youtube on my computer.
  • Now I am ready to write! The only distraction I have now is my cat! She offers pets and purrs for my hard work :)
