  • In the early 1800s, The United States was a new country that was growing. The Americans needed more land. In 1803 the US bought the Louisiana Territory from France for $15 million dollars. This is called the Louisiana Purchase.

  • n August 1813 the Republican Army battled Spanish forces south of San Antonio near the Medina River. Commanded by General Joaquin de Arredondo, the Spanish overwhelmed the Republican Army and won a complete victory. Most of the rebels were killed in battle, and others were killed after surrendering.
  • After Mexican leader Agustin de Iturbide lost power, the Mexican people wanted a change in government. They called a constitutional assembly to draft (write) a new constitution.
