- Eleanor is an outsider and stands out against the rest of her high school. Park is a comic-book and musicloving boy. The two first meet when Eleanor can't find a place to sit on the bus and Park offers her a seat next to him while the rest of the students mock Eleanor for her looks and clothing choices.
- Park's love for Eleanor continues to grow and he shows his love by defending Eleanor. Since the beginning Steve has been making fun of and bullying Eleanor. Eventually Park has had enough and takes matters into his own hands. He starts a fight with Steve to defend Eleanor.
- Eleanor and Park's relationship continues to grow and flourish and over time they go from being aqquantinces to having a stronger relationship. Park starts making Eleanor music to listen to and gives her comic books to read every morning on the bus.
- One night after Eleanor returns home she immedialty hears the arguing voice of her dad and the crying sounds of her mom. She slips into the room she shares with her siblings only to find all of her prized possession broken and ruined. Richie had ruined the small amount of things Eleanor Cherished. Along with this Eleanor found a threatening note from him.
- Although her relationship with Park is going well, her life at home is continusly getting worse. Her parents are constantly fighting, her dad yells and disrespects Eleanor, and invades her privacy. He is inhospitable and is always yelling at her for not heeding his rules.
- Park misses Eleanor greatly and writes and sends her letters to stay in contact with her.
- "No. Come on. It's not worth it."
- "You are. You're worth it."
- Eleanor decides she can no longer stay in her house so Park takes her and drives her all the way to Minnesota where Eleanor's uncle can take her in.
- However, Eleanor can't bring her self to open and read the letters. She never responds to Park until she sends a letter back with only three little words.
