  • I need to leave tonight and head to the north.
  • This is all I have sir. What you asked for. 
  • No! We share the farm you aren't allowed to tell me what to do.
  • But..Sir! I need money to feed my kid. Please! 
  • Are you kidding me? I pay you for more than you are worth! No money. This is hardly anything!
  • Don't you DARE talk back to me!! You better be here! And don't you dare try to escape or you will get hurt.
  • No! Now, I have to find my whip. You must be here at 5:00 tomorrow. You are in Debt. 
  • I understand. Once it is safe, we can come back and visit. I know how much you like the nature. You know why we need to go sweetie. Do you really want to live with people hurting us, and treating us unfairly? And you need a better education. 
  • Hurry Sweetie! We can't let him catch us! I am sick of this share cropping, and I want to have fair rights.

  • I feel like everyone is escaping these days. African Americans are treated so unfairly. We are headed to New York as well. We are going to the train station to get there.
  • We have 2 more train tickets! they were meant for my mother and Father but they cannot make it.

  • Finally! New York City!! We might have to go find a home. And, a school for Layla.
  • We should stay in touch. You guys helped us out a lot. 
  • Look at all of these big buildings! They are so tall! Look there is a school! 
  • Harlem Renaissance was caused from African Americans. It was partly from an effect of the Great Migration and the amount of African Americans that moved.
  • Mom! They Kicked us out. Just because we are black! This town is becoming racist, because we moved here.
