  • Hm. I don't think our spaceship is supposed to be on fire at the moment.
  • We may or may not be crashing.
  • Yeah! The thermosphere extends about 600km above Earth, and the temperatures are pretty high here... ranging from 500 to 3600 degrees celsius, or higher!
  • Yes... but the pressure is quite low here, too. And- auroras occur here!
  • Ooh, look! We're at the thermosphere!
  • Wh- Uh, okay. Well, the mesosphere extends to 85 km above Earth's surface... and the pressure here is still very low... and the coldest temperatures in the atmosphere are found in this layer- reaching minus 90 degrees celsius!
  • Okay. And?
  • Eh. Not too big of a fan of this one.
  • ... Alright. And this is also the layer where incoming meteorites burn most.
  • And now the mesosphere!
  • Right. Well, yes, this layer IS where airplanes fly. It extends to 50 km above Earth's surface, and both pressure and temperature increase, with the top being minus 3 degrees.
  • Hey! It's the stratosphere!
  • What? I'm an aviation enthusiast.
  • Oh, so NOW you're excited?
  • I also pray that you become a tolerable person someday.
  • Yup. Pressure decreases, temperature ranges from 15 to 63 degrees celsius, almost all weather occurs here, begins at Earth's surface and extends from 8 to 14.5 km high... huh. We're getting pretty close, aren't we?
  • Quite! Well, hope you survive the landing. "Bon voyage", as they say!
  • Ah, the troposphere.
  • Um, I'm pretty sure they say that BEFORE you leave. Not when you're crashing back in a burning hunk of metal.
