  • Hey, I'm here to talk about Egypt. Particularly, the importance of the Nile River. The Nile River was very significant to the Ancient Egyptians, and there are four main factors that the Nile River provided.
  • Who can name the factors?
  • Me too!
  • I can!
  • Hey, I'm Katie and I'm at the Nile River. (Those clumps of dirt nearby is a make believe version of a levee)
  • One important gift that the Nile River gave to the Ancient Egyptians was mud. Now, that may not sound like much but every year, the Nile River would flood, and wash mud up onto the shore. Afterward, the Egyptians would sow seeds into the soil and grow plants. They would also use the mud to help build houses. If the Nile River would not flood, the Egyptians wouldn't be able to plant anything. To make sure the flooding would not drown the plants, the Egyptians used Irrigation Systems and Shadufs.

  • Hi, I'm Jason and I'm...not at the Nile River.
  • Another gift was water of course! Water is essential to life and the Nile River was the main water source that the Egyptians would use. The Ancient Egyptians could also use water to irrigate their crops. They could travel and trade on water. Water led to many achievements.... but I won't get into the specifics now.
  • In addition, another gift was papyrus reeds that grows along the banks of the Nile River. The Egyptians could make paper and braid baskets out of the reeds.
  • Well, those were the main gifts that the Nile River gave. But also, the Nile River provided the Egyptians with fresh fish to catch and eat.
  • You are all correct! The Nile River was very important to the Ancient Egyptians for those reasons.
