I don’t trust them two, something off about a little guy like that taken that big guy around.
Off the Salinas River in California, two migrant workers, George and Lennie, travel to a ranch for work after leaving a previous job because Lennie mistakenly grabbed a woman by her dress.
Climax
George and Lennie are close buddies. However, Lennie is developmentally challenged, and the two buddies frequently get into mischief as a result of his infantile mentality.
Falling Action
…Go hide in the brush by the river.
Curley, the boss's son, dislikes Lennie right away and picks on him. Curley's wife causes complications by continually vying for the attention of the males. The ranch staff, particularly Candy, become friends with the boys.
Resolution
Slim gave Lennie a puppy, which he is caring for in the barn. Curley's wife walks in and the two start talking. Lennie touches her hair without realising it because he enjoys soft things. When she gets nervous and tells him to stop, he panics and breaks her neck.
George had given Lennie precise instructions to shelter beside the river if anything unpleasant happened. George meets him there.
Before Curley can find Lennie, George shoots him. It's hidden by the men. The reader shares George's grief at having to kill his best friend.
