  • In 1948, black/colored people began to be segregated and treated differently due to Apartheid and white supremacy started taking over.
  • Im so glad I have so much space to sit on, unlike the black people. White people are superior!!

  • Why do I have to sit away in a small seat away from them just because im black?

  • Within 1960, Nelson Mandela helped organize a branch of the ANC. This branch would help organize different civil rights movements. This was in order to rebel, sabotage or go against the white government because they had taken away black peoples rights.
  • Nelson Mandela
  • Nelson Mandela was born in 1918, he studied law and eventually became a lawyer. Mandela was able to assemble and arrange many civil rights movements such as boycotts and nonviolent strikes. This was all organized in order to rebel against the apartheid as black individuals had lost their rights. 
  • Within the 1960s, a tremendous amount of pressure was added onto the government. Later, the United Nations had suspended sales and shipments of equipment and arms. They would allow shipments to continue once the apartheid was abolished. To ensure apartheid would be put to an end, South Africa got put out or excluded from the olympics.
  • F.W. de Klerk
  • F.W. de Klerk was the former president of South Africa. He had contributed to the process of the abolishment of apartheid in many ways; one of which was freeing Nelson Mandela. To further imply, he also removed the ban on the ANC (American National Congress). He proposed a new constitution that resulted in the equality of black and white citizens of South Africa. Within this timing, the government was attempting to demolish the rules of apartheid.
  • Effects/ Results
  • - Social Movements were conducted to fight for black individuals rights.- The ANC was lifted from ban which caused the fight for humans rights to continue.- Nelson Mandela showed the world that even without violence, you can make a change. This was done through non-violent strikes and boycotts, etc.- The end of apartheid and the gain of black individuals came to life.- White supremacy laws were abolished (similar to apartheid).
