- Hi, my name is Tierney Thys and I am a marine biologist, science educator, and National Geographic Explorer.
- I was born in Northern California, and I've always had a dream to work with the water. During grade school, I learned how to SCUBA dive in a lake.
- In 1988, I graduated from Brown University with a degree in biology. I came back to California after college and got a job to build a winged submarine at Deep Ocean Engineering before attending graduate school at Duke University back home in North Carolina.
- For 10 years I worked at Sea Studios Foundation SSF, a non-profit foundation based in Monterey, California dedicated to inspiring public understanding of science, technology and the environment through entertaining, innovative media and outreach.
- I love working with many different groups to advance marine conservation and awareness. A Recent collaboration include serving as lead science advisor and narrator for Okeanos a multi-sensory performance by the San Francisco dance troupe.
- I deeply care for the ocean and the marine animals that live in it, and my goal is to inspire others to take action. To make new creations, new technology, that can help us find new species and to save the others from society's harmful ways.
