- Find the bird. In the loop. On the other side of the old man's grave. September 3, 1940.
- Jacob finds his grandfather nearly dead in a forest, slashed by a monster. He can see some mysterious tentacles just disappearing into the trees. His grandfather dies.
- Jacob and his Dad arrive on the Island. His dad thinks that they are here to look for birds, but Jacob is on the island because the orphanage where his mysterious grandfather grew up was situated here.
- Jacob discovers the old abandoned orphanage but it is all bombed out and not in good shape. He decides to walk into the foyer but then leaves to get home.
- The museum caretaker takes Jacob to an old Cairnholm man who describes what happened on the 3rd of September 1940. Jacob learns some valuable information.
- One bomb was all it took. Gave their lives up for Britain, they did.... I can tell you the exact date: September 3rd 1940.
- I knew him. he was my grandfather
- Wait, I'm not going to hurt you!! I just want to talk! WAIT!!!
- Jacob chases a girl through the marshes and into a creepy cave. What he doesn't realise is that he has just walked into the entrance of the loop. After losing sight of the girl, he leaves but he arrives back to Cairnholm when it is September 3, 1940.
- Jacob sits talking to Miss Peregrine who is explaining about the peculiars and the loop. Jacob tells her his grandfather died and she is very sad.
- There are peculiars all over the world. Though are numbers are much diminished from what they once were. Those who remain live in hiding, as we do.
- Woah. Btw my grandpa is dead.
