- Harald Hardrada invaded England from Norway (northeast of England) to claim the throne of England he invaded with 300 ships and captured the town of York.

- Harald Hardrada's army had left their armor on the boat and the army was scattered around. Hardrada also assumed that Harold Godwinson would not leave the south of England as it was under constant threat of pending norman invasion. one axeman from hardrada's army held of Godwinson's army from york. he was killed after being stabbed.

- Hardrada was shot in the neck, after his death it is considered the end of the Viking age. Godwinson made a deal with his son that if he goes back and never attacks England again, he will live. he left with 24 ships out of the 300 they came with.

- Godwinson banded together the housecarls ( professionally trained soldiers who worked full-time) and the fyrd ( people who were part-time soldiers) instead of gathering his whole army in London they went directly to york collecting soldiers on the way. They traveled 180 miles in 4 days.
