- 50 million years ago, the original species of the modern sloth roamed the earth, and they were known as the#160;Megatherium. They lived on the grasslands and woodlands#160;of South and North America.
- Unknown to many, the Megatherium were land living, and did not live in trees.#160;But, due to random mutations, some of them had traits accustomed to living in trees. In South America, there were many profitable aspects of the woodland and grasslands for humans to sell.
- Imagine living in trees.
- In order to profit, hunters came in order to kill them, and take their fur for warmth, and sell it to those who needed it. So that they could money.
- RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!
- Kill them all!!!
- In order to survive, some of the Megatherium took refuge in the trees, even though they hadn't adapted to living there just yet. But because of their decision, they survived.#160;Over time, they adapted to their environment, and learned to live in the trees, because some of them had mutations fit to do so. The rest that lived on the ground died out, due to the survival pressure of human hunting and other predators in their environment. Due to scarcity and a decrease in food security, however, the surviving Megatherium slowly became smaller than they originally were.
- Stay here until the coast in clear.
- Because they took refuge in trees, those that lived there lived until breeding age, and they started breeding. Over time, they had become the only ones living, as the ground living group had become a thing of the past.
- Imagine living on the ground.
- And that is how the modern sloth came to be.
