  • I'm feeling a little sick Cara, I don't think I can take you today. Ask dad to take you.
  • Hey mom, why are you still in bed? It's time to go to my doctor's appointment!
  • Alright, honey. Finish up your breakfast and I'll take you.
  • Hey dad, mom said she's feeling sick today so you have to take me to the doctor.
  • Hey dad, I was wondering why is mom sick even though she took all of her vaccines?
  • That's a great question, Cara. Most vaccines don't stop you from getting sick. They simply teach your body how to fight the virus in case you ever get infected.
  • What is a virus and what does it do?
  • A virus is a nonliving strand of genetic material that infects and can even harm living organisms.
  • How is it possible for vaccines to teach your body to do something? Vaccines cant talk!
  • Haha, you're right Cara! The doctors inject a protein from the virus's DNA into your body through the vaccine. Your body then reacts as if it's infected and learns how to fight the virus.
  • But doesn't that mean that the doctors have to make you sick first in order to learn how to fight the virus?
  • But your body believes that you're infected, and learns to fight off the virus. Your body is very smart, and remembers the exact way of how to fight the virus. It's important to get vaccinated so you can protect yourself against harmful diseases.
  • Well, there are 3 types of vaccines. The first type is called emulated. Which means that the part of the virus that the doctors inject you with is weakened, so it can't hurt you or infect you.
