- Welcome Rainsford, I'm General Zaroff.
- Where could he be??
- Exposition- This is the point where Rainsford washed up on shore and is staying the night out before exploring the island in the morning."Dense jungle came down to the very edge of the cliffs."
- He can't get me out here.
- Rising Action-This is the point when Rainsford finds the house/castle and meets General Zaroff who invited him in to stay and gave him food, water, and clothing."His eyes made out the shadowy outlines of a palatial chateau"
- It was easier to swim than walk through the jungle.
- How did you get in here?
- Rising Action-This is when Rainsford sets the Burmese Tiger Pit and waits for General Zaroff to fall in causing him to lose his best dog."Your Burmese tiger pit has claimed one of my best dogs."

- Climax-When Rainsford jumped into the ocean to get away from Zaroff."Twenty feet below him the sea rumbled and hissed. Rainsford hesitated. He heard the hounds. Then he leaped far out into the sea. . . ."
- Falling Action-Rainsford sneaks back into Zaroff's house and surprises him in his room after swimming away earlier."Rainsford!" screamed the general. "How in God's name did you get here?""Swam," said Rainsford. "I found it quicker than walking through the jungle."
- Resolution- Zaroff and Rainsford battle and Zaroff is killed and Rainsford decides to take a nap in Zaroff's bed."The general made one of his deepest bows. "I see," he said. "Splendid! One of us is to furnish a repast for the hounds. The other will sleep in this very excellent bed. On guard, Rainsford." . . .He had never slept in a better bed, Rainsford decided."
