  • Catherine's vision was to build a lovely home in a desirable area with a school for young girls and children. There, they would receive a good religious education. They'd learn to read and write, cook and sew, as well as a plethora of other talents that every woman should possess. They moved in on the site in July 1824.
  • Chapter 12 The Best that money could buy
  • The House of Mercy was almost ready to be finished. Catherine McAuley moved into the Mercy House after selling the Coolock House on the market. The Magnificent House was first occupied by Anna Maria. By the time the House was sold, Catherine and Anna had moved into the House of Mercy. Catherine was certain that building the House to care for the underprivileged was what God was calling her to do.
  • Chapter 13Convinced of God's call
  • Catherine ultimately moved into the House of Mercy in June 1828. She was overjoyed that her goal had grown more true, and she knew that God was with her through it all. Many of her close friends who had loved and supported her were no longer alive. Despite the fact that Catherine had moved to Baggot Street, she still spent a lot of time in Kilmainham, especially after it was discovered that William was not in good health. She would frequently take the children, especially the smaller ones, to the House of Mercy to spend the day.
