Storyboard Text

  • Winston risks and walks into the district where all the proles live. He encounters an old man and decides to follow him into the pub. This is an important scene because it introduces another character and leads to Winston's journey about learning about the past.
  • He eventually sits down with the old man and starts a conversation. He slips in a few questions to get some answers but the old man's responses were no help. I think this was an important scene because it shows how Winston was determined to prove that the Party and Big Brother are full of lies.
  • On Winston's way back home, he finds himself in a dark alley. He realizes he has stumbled upon the store where he had bought his diary. He didn't want to draw any attention to himself so he stepped in. He meets the owner of the antique store, Mr. Charrington where he buys a glass paperweight with coral inside. This is an important scene because it progresses into another important scene in the chapter.
  • Afterwards, Mr Charrignton brings Winston upstairs to a private room where he and his wife had lived together before she passed. Mr.Charrignton mentions how it doesn't have a telescreen and Winston admires the paintings and pictures on the wall. This scene is important because this room is used by Winston and Julia so they wont be caught.
