Storyboard Text
Around 500 B.C.
I think the Earth is round, not flat.
Yes, I think so, too.
Around 500 B.C.
Pythagoras
Earth is a spherical planet.
My pupils and I proposed this idea.
In 500 to 430 B.C.
Anaxagoras
The shadow reflected is circular.
I observed the shadows casted by the Earth on the Moon during a lunar eclipse.
And this supported Pythagoras' proposal.
Around 340 B.C.
As well as the shape of the Moon and the Sun.
I listed here the arguments regarding the spherical Earth.
Aristotle
This list also includes the position of the North Star.
Around 240 B.C.
Eratosthenes
I determined the size of the Earth by applying geometric principles.
I observed the noonday sun in Alexandria and Syene, which are opposite of each other.
It was me who gave the most accurate size of the Earth during our time.
Around 240 B.C.
Eratosthenes
I measured the shadow casted by the vertical stick placed in these places.
Then there is a difference between these shadows. Hence, I conclude that the Earth is curved.
