Cathy Freeman came into the world in Mackay Queensland, in 1973. Cathy grew up in a small coastal suburb called Slade Point. Even though she is an athlete on the 6th of February 2011 she got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes at the same time she was expecting her first child

Throughout Cathy Freeman's life, she has experienced a lot of discrimination based off of her background. But one of the main ones she has gone through would have to be at the 2000 Olympics when Cathy got nominated to light the touch. This was a huge accomplishment for her but was sadly ruined when a group of people started to yell out 'Boooo!' to her as if she didn't deserve to have this role. Although it was a small comment this really made Cathy upset.

Even though Cathy has gone through a lot of discrimination throughout her life the most positive thing she has been able to do is to rise above the people who have been treating her differently because of where she comes from. This is shown when she wins the relay race at the commonwealth games in 1994. This shows how she touched through and didn't let people get to her.
Throughout Cathy Freeman's career, she has gone through numerous support structures with the main one being a stress therapist. Having a stress therapist allowed Cathy to express her emotions and concerns within her life and to get feedback that can help her throughout her career and life.
