- Toussaint L'Ouverture was born in Cap-Haitien, Haiti in 1743.
- This is the country that I learned from my father. He was a free man back there in Africa. I also learned that I was much more than just a slave, that I was a man with brains and dignity. I have the potential to be something more in my life!
- Upon hearing news of being betrayed by the revolutionaries, people led to widespread mass slave revolts in Saint Dominique.

- I genuinely admire this French Enlightenment philosopher who wrote this book. He spoke about individual rights and freedom which resonates with me deeply.
