  • In general, more women develop lung cancer than men, and more often, black women.
  • CANCER REASERCH: LUNG CANCER
  • The mean age of people with lung cancer is abouut 66
  • Like most other cancers, there is no one cure to lung cancer. There are treatment options, such as:- Lung transplant- a match donor's lungs are given to a patient with lung cancer, giving them a second chance to have healthy lungs. The problem are the extremely long waiting list, and the rarity of a perfect match for a specific patient.- Radiation- uses high-energy waves to essentially burn the cancer cells into being unable to duplicate. The downsides are sometimes, the cells around the area being radiated can also be damaged, and the cancer cells can sometimes be resistant to the radiation and are not eliminated. Lung cancer is not a certain death diagnosis, since there are treatment options. But, they are not 100% cures, so taking that into consideration, the survival rate is only 18.6%.
  • TREATMENT?
  • Lung cancer can be developed from a random cell mutation, but the leading cause of lung cancer is smoking. Lung cancer is not genetic, but the addiction likelihood can be passed down, causing one to smoke and develop lung cancer. Also, depending on where you live, air pollution could cause lung cancer. Symptoms of lung cancer include excessive coughing, wheezing, chest pain, coughing up blood, and unintended weight loss. To get tested, a low dose computed tomography (LDCT) is what will be recommended. A low dose of radiation is used to show your lungs in detail with x-rays, providing the doctor with images to tell whether you have lung cancer ot not.
  • SYMPTOMS, SCREENINGS CAUSES
  • Right now, the use of immunotherapies in clinical trials is what the future of lung cancer treatment is looking like. Immunotherapies help the immune system with the fighting off of cancer cells. Researchers are also trying to figure out how to pick out patients that would best suit the treatment.
