- In his story Harrison Bergeron, Kurt Vonnegut makes the point that total equality was not the goal that we strive towards. many people in the story believed this was true but in reality, it was not a goal to be misinterpreted. in the story, the government controls its citizens by a handicap they gave people to wear in order to keep them under control. the overall moral of the story is that we should appreciate our differences instead of feeling down about them. therefore the moral of the story is that the government controls its citizens
