  • Wow! I didn't know there was so much information about solids! Anyways, 2nd task: after reading the article, put the ice cube in a beaker and observe over a long course of time.
  • 15 minutes later
  • Wow! the ice cube is melting!
  • Melting! When heat energy is added to a solid, its particles move faster and faster and move farther and farther apart. The solid eventually becomes a liquid. Liquids DO NOT have a definite shape but they DO have a definite volume. Particles in a liquid are loose, but are still together. Particles in a liquid have a "okay" attraction as they are able to move around each other. liquid particles can slide past each other. Liquids possess fluidity and take up the shape of their container. They also flow.
  • Wow! I didn't know there was a whole process of how a solid transforms into a liquid! I just thought they were in one state of matter forever!
  • Well, let's get onto the next task. Task 3: Pour the water into a pan, put the pan on the stove, and finally heat it up. Observe what happens to the water.
  • Okay, I put the ice cube in the beaker. Now, I just have to wait!
