Storyboard Text

  • Mark Antony
  • After the death of Julius Caesar there was struggle for power between his supporters and the people who organized his death.
  • Julius Caesar
  • Mark Antony was consul at the time and had been close friends with Caesar. He published Caesar’s Will which was that he left 300 sesterces to every man in Rome. This turned the people against Caesar’s murder and they were forced to flee.

  •  I deserved the power because I was a close friend of Caesar!
  • Antony had now held power but he was soon challenged by Octavian, who was Caesar’s great nephew who was nineteen.

  • Casear was impressed by the intelligence of Octavian and adopted him so that he could gain power when Caesar died.
  • No but my great uncle said that I could have all the power not you!
  • That sounds great! We can also take some of there stuff too!
  • At first they decided to share power between them. When the Senate attempted to regain control of a Rome. They had all 130 of them murdered.
  • Let’s murder them and then we can make them seize their property.

  • To show commitment to his partner, Antony divorced his wife and married Octavian’s sister Octavia.

  • It was agreed that the Roman Empire would be  divided by the two men, Octavian looking after Western Europe and Antony, the eastern territories.

  • Antony met Cleopatra while in Egypt. He soon fell in love with her divorcing his wife and marry Cleopatra.
  •  Cleopatra will you marry me?

  • Octavian was furious that his sister was treated this way . The people of Rome were also angry because Antony married a foreigner.

  • Octavian agreed for Antony to retaliate by invading Parthia. The rebellion in Sicily of Sextus Pompeii’s kept the army in Italy. This caused a dispute with Octavian but a new treaty was signed in 38 B.C
  • In 40 B.C the Parthians invaded Roman territory. Occupying Syria, advancing into Asia Minor and installing Antigone’s as puppet king in Judaea. Antony sent his general Publius Venntidius to oppose this invasion.
