After the death of Julius Caesar there was struggle for power between his supporters and the people who organized his death.

Mark Antony was consul at the time and had been close friends with Caesar. He published Caesar’s Will which was that he left 300 sesterces to every man in Rome. This turned the people against Caesar’s murder and they were forced to flee.

In 40 B.C the Parthians invaded Roman territory. Occupying Syria, advancing into Asia Minor and installing Antigone’s as puppet king in Judaea. Antony sent his general Publius Venntidius to oppose this invasion.
