  • The rise of the roman republic from the perspective of a plebeian
  • We have to surrender, there might be an emeny attack!
  • in 616-509 BC, The Etruscans ruled Rome, so the Romans were divided into two social classes. The Patricians had all of the power, and all of the money, and all of the better things, which wasnt fair to us Plebeians. We were the poorer people and didnt have much power at all. I had a tough life as a Plebeian, but it would soon change.
  • Vote tom for Tribune
  • Vote Ted for tribune
  • Ted for tribune
  • In 509 BC, the Patricians drove out the last Etruscan king, so they could have Rome all to themselves. They never included us Plebeians in anything- the Patricians relied on a group of 300 Senators who were elected by Patricians. They also had Consuls, who were military leaders.
  • In 494 BC, Plebeians finally rebelled against those mean and unfair Patricians. 95% of the population was us Plebeians, so there were more of us than them. We marched out into the city and we refused to return until those nasty Patricians were fair to us. Work and farming stopped, and soon did the military. The Patricians were worried that an enemy might attack during this period, so the patricians finally compromised.
  • After that, the Patricians finally allowed us to be included in their government! I was so happy that we could finally have some power to vote! We were allowed to elect officials called Tribunes and Plebs. Tribunes were able to overrule actions by the Senate. Plebs created laws for Plebeians only. We gradually gained political equality, and in 451, the 12 tablets were created so that the Patricians couldn't change the laws whenever they wanted.
  • In 367, A law was created that said one of the two consuls must be Plebeian. I am so glad that the Patricians are finally treating us equally. Us Plebeians are slowly gaining power, and by 287 BC, we were able to pass laws fro all Roman citizens. Now all of Roman citizens and assemblies could approve or reject laws. This is great, us Plebeians have finally won the battle for equality!
