Storyboard Text

  • Before the Berlin Wall was built, everyone in Berlin was peaceful and could easily have access to either side of Berlin and families and friends. Everybody was free and happy
  • On the night of August 13th, 1961, soldiers and drafted citizens of Berlin gathered and constructed the wall.
  • By morning, the wall's temporary concrete was built, As people of each side flooded out of their homes to see what the riot was about, people were appalled to see the split that would cause families to tear apart and lives to be lost.
  • Each side was different, the East (right), was industrial and more of a bad community, whereas the West (left), was more politically active and neighborly.
  • Only certain personnel could cross through very few checkpoints to the other side of the wall. Soldiers, generals, and important people had access to passing to the other side.
  • On November 9th, 1989, people protested against the Wall and arrived with hammers and axes to tear it down. By the end of the day, the wall was in bits and pieces and everyone was once again free. Families were reunited with each other and everyone had the ability to go to either side as they pleased.
