- Don’t nobody yell, just back up slow and quiet to the ladder and climb up to the loft
- Person vs. Society
- I should introduce myself, I’m Ezekial Abernathy, or was so called formerly. I was on the northward when the snow delayed me last November.
- Then you ain’t a slave?
- Diana Goss?? Oh Lyddie, don't’ be taken in.
- Person vs. Person
- I’ll watch out
- I don’t know. Just Diana. She was very kind to me today.
- In the very first scene, Lyddie and her family are faced with a dangerous situation. A bear comes into their cabin and Lyddie has to keep her family safe. They climb a ladder to the loft for safety. While they are up there, the bear destroys the cabin.
- In chapter 6 Ezekial is a runaway slave. He has to hide from people and the government otherwise he would be captured and sold as a slave. So Ezekial is running toward the north because in the south that’s where the slaves are. While Lyddie is running toward the South because that’s where the mills are.
- In chapter 9 Lyddie meets Diana, and when Lyddie tells Amelia about her. She reacts by saying that Lyddie should not hangout with Diana and that it was a bad idea of meeting Diana later on. But Lyddie refused to listen to her and go and meet Diana anyways.
