- Mama, is it true that we don't need to eat and sleep so much?
- Oh darling, those things are false. Those are the things that we need to do to survive.
- Us sea otters don't have any blubber, so for us to stay warm in the water, we must eat a lot. At least 25% of our body fat!
- Oh wow I see, but that feels like a lot.
- But that isn't the only thing we have to do to stay warm. We must constantly groom ourselves for 3 hours so that our thick coat can keep us warm too.
- For us to eat that much, we have to dive and catch a lot of food.
- We have to scavenge for food most of the day with how little food there is
- Look! So many sea urchins.
- Constantly diving takes up so much energy, since we do it a lot to get food
- And in order for us to regain that energy, we must rest for long periods of time
- You're welcome darling, now you know that we must eat a lot and rest for long periods of time.
- Oh wow mama, thank you for teaching me the basic things that I will need for me to survive on my own, but I think I'll let you handle most of the things right now
