Storyboard Text

  • Mrs. Mallard, the main character, suffers from weak heart disease. Her concerned sister, Josephine, is worried that her condition would not take the stress of the shocking news she is about to hear.
  • Exposition
  • The protagonist (Mrs. Mallard) has an unhappy marriage with her husband (Mr. Brently Mallard) and is longing for freedom; however, she finds freedom on her own death.
  • Conflict
  • Josephine and Mr. Mallard's friend, Richard, compassionately reveal to Mrs. Louise Mallard that her husband has been killed in a railroad accident.
  • Rising Action
  • Even though Mrs. Mallard is going through a moment of grief, she realizes that she is free from marriage. A marriage where she was not happy. Although she expresses her sorrow, secretly she rejoices inside.
  • Climax
  • Free, free, free!

  • Louise, open the door!
  • Her sister Josephine was asking Mrs. Mallard to open the door because she was worried about her health, but in reality, Mrs. Mallard was fine, she was not making herself ill.
  • Falling Action
  • Go away. I am not making myself ill.
  • Mrs. Mallard's husband appeared at the front door; he was not involved in the accident. At the shock of seeing her husband again, Mrs. Mallard collapses. The doctors declared that she died because of 'heart disease'
