- The Capetian Kings elected Capet and chose him because he was not a huge threat and owned land around Paris.

- In 1179 Philip II (Philip Augusts) was named the king of France and paid Middle- class citizens to be loyal to him.
- The True Pope
- I never thought I, a frenchman would would be elected as the Pope. I am the one and only church leader.
- Not even 30 years after his death he was deemed a saint.in 1226 Lois IX was named King of France and persecuted the Heretics and Jews. He went to war twice against the muslims and was very religious.

- Louis IX's grandson, Philip IV wanted to raise money so he formed a new tax to tax the clergy and if they didn't pay he would arrest them. The pope did not like which created a dispute between the two. The pope escaped the chase and shorty died after.
- In 1305 a new pope was elected. 4 years after he moved Papal court just outside of France. This caused commotion when a new pope was elected in Rome because both of the Popes claimed to be the true one church leader.

- Philip brought together French support and set up Estates General in 1302. This included representatives from all three social classes. The Estates General never gained power and served as a balance to royal power.
