CONFLICT
I love the old man, but his evil eye vexes me! But it's closed so I can't kill him.
RISING ACTION
It's open! I must rid myself of the eye and kill the old man!
Our narrator is trying to convince someone that he is not a mad man and that he is just "nervous".
CLIMAX
You will be stone dead when I get done with you!
Because it is the eye that vexes our narrator and not the old man himself, the narrator finds it hard to do his killing.
FALLING ACTION
Can you hear me now?!?!
The narrator, on the 8th night, enters the room. After making a sound the old man wakes up. The narrator sees that the eye is open and gets ready to strike.
RESOLUTION
Tear up the floorboards! It is the beating of his hideous heart!
The narrator throws the bedding on the old man. He says he hears no heart beating, no sign of life. The eye will bother him no longer.
AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
The narrator is too clever. He has cut up the old man and has washed all the blood out in the tub. He will now bury the body under the floor.
Our narrator believes he hears the heartbeat of the old man under the floor. He confesses the crime to the police.
