Storyboard Text

  • Sam Houston ordered the Alamo to be destroyed and weaponry and supplies be moved. Sam Houston sent Jim Bowie to evaluate the deconstruction and situation.
  • Jim Bowie decided that the Alamo was worth defending and ordered that it be fortified and defended. It was a fateful decisions as the Alamo's walls were to weak to defend and lack the man power to properly use the "fort".
  • The final assault on the Alamo occurred on March 6, 1836 5:30 where days prior the Alamo had been sprayed with cannon fire and the North wall was the first to fall where general Travis was one of the first to die.
  • The Texans were badly outnumbered 1,800 to 189. Santa Anna planned on taking no prisoners. Knowing this would most likely end in defeat Travis had sent out letters earlier hoping to get back up, backup was 32 men.
  • All but three people were killed, pregnant Susanna Dickinson, her unborn child, and one of Travis' slaves. Santa Anna reported 70 dead while others say more around 400.
  • Despite the major loss of the battle many Texans used it as a battle or rallying cry as it inspired people to not lose in vain.
