- Macbeth runs into Banquo and his son in the middle of the night. Banquo talks about thinking about the "three weird sisters" while Macbeth lies and says he hasn't thought about them. On his way to Duncan's room, Macbeth hallucinates about a bloody dagger.
- Act 2 Scene 4
- Macbeth returns to Lady Macbeth after killing Duncan. He is anxious. Lady Macbeth realizes that he didn't leave the knife at the scene of the crime, like was planned. She gets frustrated and tells him to go back and plant it. He refuses so she goes and plants it herself. She calls him a coward again.

- Macduff and Lennox, two more of Duncan's colleagues come over to meet with Duncan. They discover Duncan dead in his room and the house goes into a frenzy.

- Ross and Macduff talk about how they think that Duncan's sons payed someone to kill their father. What makes them more suspicious is that they fled the country after the father's death. Because of this, Ross reports that Macbeth is going to be named as president.
