  • Dictator Porfirio Diaz Mori was in power for 34 years and this era was called El Porfiriato. This long of a term violated the Mexican Constitution of 1857. Used bullying and intimidation to get the citizen's support.
  • He limited the freedom of the press. One of his most damaging reforms was allocating land which belonged to the Mexican people to wealthy non-nationals in an attempt to strengthen ties with the United States. No Mexican was allowed to own land unless they had a formal title. This left the peasants no choice but to revolt.
  • The dictator of Mexico, Porfirio Diaz Mori wanted to modernize Mexico, worked on implementing a capitalist society by building factories, dams and roads, but this was at the expense of the peasants and rural workers. In doing so, they wanted to overthrow Diaz. This was November 20th, 1910, when the Mexican Revolution started.
