  • The children's crusade was started by a french boy named Stephen of Cloys and a German boy named Nicholas in Europe in 1212 AD . About 15,000 to nearly 30,000 kids gathered at a place called St Denis. They most likely gathered during an annual festival called the Lendit fair.
  • Attempting to reach the Holy Land,Nicholas of Cologneled the Germanpueri southward towardsMainzandSpeyer. There also may have been french pueri amongst them.Nicholas then led thepueriacross theAlpsto the Italian cities ofPiacenzaandGenoa
  • In Piacenza and Genoa they failed to find a boat to take them to the holy land. Their fate remains uncertain but some sailed back to Marseille while others apparently journeyed to Rome.Of the more than 7,000pueriwho arrived in Genoa, many remained—cheap labour was needed there and in other thriving Italian cities. Many probably ended up in massive labour migration.
