- The British celebrate Bonfire Night every year on 5 November in the memory of a famous event in British history, the Gunpowder plot.
- November 1605, a group of Roman Catholics planned to blow up the House of Parliament while King James I was inside the building.
- However, the evening before, Guy Fawkes was caught in the cellars with gunpowder, and the plot was discovered.
- Guy Fawkes and Thomas Wintour were executed by hanging
- Over four hundred years after the Gunpowder plot, we still remember how Guy Fawkes and his fellow plotters failed to blow up Parliament and kill King James I.
- Nowadays everyone enjoys this festival. Some children make a figure of a man made of old clothes stuffed with newspaper or straw to represent Guy Fawkes. The figure is then burned on top of a bonfire on Bonfire Night. Fireworks are also present during this celebration,.
