  • BEFORE POTATO FAMINE
  • We have a lot of potatoes..
  • POTATOES!!!!
  • THE POTATOES BLIGHT BEGINS...
  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WHAT ARE WE GONNA EAT!??
  • All of the potatoes are rotten...
  • DURING THE FAMINE...
  • WAAAA I AM SO HUNGRY!!!☹☹☹
  • WE HAVE NO FOOD!!?
  • During the 1500's Ireland was torn apart by constant warfare, as a result of this continental conflict, Ireland's peasant farmers has a hard time growing enough food for people. In the year 1600, potatoes were introduced.
  • A BOAT TO A NEW WORLD
  • In 1845 when a fungus like organism called Phytophthora infestations spread throughout Ireland. It ruined up to half of the photo crops that year, and about three-quarters of the crops over the next seven years.
  • THE JOURNEY

  • The British government efforts to relive the famine were inadequate, meaning poor. They authorized the import of the corn for the U.S. which helped avert some starvation. However most people didn't know how to cook corn so they eat it raw and some people died because of this. Most people got kicked out of their homes because they would use the cropped potatoes to pay rent.

  • I am so happy we came!!
  • Because people were dying in Ireland, most people moved from Ireland to America and other places. Ireland population of 8.4 million fell to about 6.6 million. About one million people died from starvation or from other famine-relateddiseases
  • The landlord simply pay to send pauper families overseas to British North America. Landlords would first make phony promises of money, food and clothing, then pack half-naked people in overcrowded Britishships, poorly built and often unseaworthy, that became known as coffin ships
  • Give us some food we are begging you!!
  • The people that made it to the Americas settled in and started a new life for themselves and their families.
