- “I wanted the ideal animal to hunt,”-Zaroff. “But no animal can reason,”-Ransford. “My dear fellow,” said the general, “there is one that can.”
- He tried to cry out, but the wash from the speeding yacht slapped him in the face and the salt water in his open mouth made him gag and strangle
- “I’m no robber. I fell off a yacht. My name is Sanger Rainsford of New York City.”
- Ransford is eating with Zarroff then Ransford learned that Zarrof hunts people so then Zarrof invited Ransford for a hunt.
- “The choice rests entirely with you. But may I not venture to suggest that you will find my idea of sport more diverting than Ivan’s?”
- Ransford fell out of the boat while trying to catch his pipe so then he started swimming toward the sounds that he had heard earlier.
- General Zarroff “Then he sat down, took a drink of brandy from a silver flask, lit a perfumed cigarette, and hummed a bit from Madame Butterfly.”
- Ransford found and building and was greeted poorly by Ivan and then met General Zaroff.
- General Zarroff-“I see,” he said. “Splendid! One of us is to furnish a repast for the hounds. The other will sleep in this very excellent bed. On guard, Rainsford. He had never slept in a better bed, Rainsford decided.
- General gave Rainsford a choice to either be hunted or be killedby Ivan.
- Rainsford jumped off a clif to escape the general from hunting him.
- Rainsford was waiting for General Zarroff in his room to confront him.
