- Thomas sits in the deadheads and thinks about how much he dislikes this new life. "It seemed as if all the realities of living there had finally settled in his mind, like hearing a final diagnosis of terminal cancer" (Dashner 146)
- Chuck brings Thomas dinner and tells him everyone is talking about what he did in the maze.
- Everyone is talking about you out there.
- Newt comes and explains that when a person goes through the changing they get some of their memory back. He also explains that after they normally become crazy, like Ben.
- ...they become unlikable and crazy, like Ben was to you.
- We have rules for a reason!
- He broke a rule!
- The keepers hold a gathering to debate what should happen to Thomas. Some of them say he should be punished for breaking the most important rules: Never enter he maze.
- What does everyone think?
- Alby is saved becuase of him
- He saved someone he should be fine!
- Some of the keepers think he should be rewarded for saving Alby.
- How about the rest of you? What do you think?
- He should take my spot as keeper of the runners!
- Gally says he is crazy and is a spy! Minho says Thomas should take his place as keeper of the runners
