  • First Meeting With Trade Union Organisers
  • Good Morning Mr. Daniels. It is nice to meet you, I am Mr. Adams.
  • Good Morning, thank you for meeting with me. I need help with my manager, He is refusing to listen to our complaints.
  • And I am Ms. Vee. How may we help you?
  • No not really.
  • No problem. We will try our best to make the journey easier and your complaints are met.

  • No problem we'll be happy to walk you through every step.
  • According to the LRA section 213, a trade union is an association of employees whose principal purpose is to regulate relations between the employees and employers.
  • After Lockdown shifted to adjusted level 4 Restaurants were able to reopen and many employees were happy to be working again, however after being open for nearly five months they have still not received their usual wages. Mr. Daniels decided to approach a Trade union organisers to help them after their manager ignored their compalints.

  • Mr. Adams informs Mr.Daniels that they will be able to help them with their manager. Ms. Vee asks Mr. Daniels if he is familiar with the work of Trade Unions and the roles and responsibilities of Trade Union Organisers. Mr. Daniels doesn't have much knowledge about trade unions and is uncertain if they will be able to help.

  • But what if my manager fires me for joining a Trade union?

  • He is not allowed to. All employees are allowed to join Trade unions.
  • Mr.Adams says it is not a problem if he does not know much about trade unions they will explain everything he wants to know.Ms. Vee explains what a trade union is according to the LRA.

  • Thank you so much for you time Mr. Adams and Ms. Vee, I'll talk to my co-workers about everything we have discussed and get back to you. 
  • Mr. Adams goes on to explain what Ms.Vee and himself does as trade union orgainisers. Ms. Vee informs Mr. Daniels what is needed from him and his co-workers in order for everything to be a success.
  • However as trade union organisers, Ms. Vee and Myself have the role of providing guidance, assistance and advice to members such as yourself.
  • ...Discuss with your manager. If there is still no change we will progress to striking, legal striking.
  • Mr. Daniels now worries that he may be fired for joining a trade union, but Ms. Vee and Mr. Adams informs him that his manager is not allowed to do that and that the employees should not engage in any illegal actions themselves.
  • If your manager does treat you or any of the other workers differently please let us know. And do not engage in any illegal actions or strikes until we discuss it.
  • Mr. Daniels thanks Mr. Adams and Ms. Vee for their time and help and plans on discussing everything with his co-workers and plans to meet with Mr. Adams and Ms. Vee again.
