Stage 2 includes marriage. Some factors that can lead to marriage success are good communication, realistic expectations of marriage, agreeing on religion/ethical issues, and spending time with each other.
Stage Five - Launching & Teens
Stage 3 includes childbearing and expanding the family. This part of the cycle is all about taking care of others. The parents give up time and money to care for their children.
Stage Six - Middle Years
Stage 4 includes parenting and raising children. They start going to school & participating in activities outside of the home. The family's unity tends to peak during this stage and household tasks are starting to be shared.
Stage Seven - Retirement & Aging
Stage 5 is when children become teens. These are the "launching" years where they become more independent. Children are almost completely on their own physically and financially. The picture above shows the teenage girl working so she can make money to provide for herself.
Stage 6 is the middle years when couples' children move out. The couple now has more time and money to travel and pursue their own hobbies. For some couples, this initiates a "second honeymoon" while others have feelings of loss.
Stage 7 includes retirement and aging. This is the last stage. Most people look forward to retirement while others really fear it. This stage includes becoming grandparents for some. The picture above shows the couple taking their grandkids to a park.
