- Charlie Gordon has a mental disability. He lives by himself and works in a factory. He goes to adult classes and is taught by Ms. Kinnean. He just wanted to be a genius.
- Falling Action
- Ms. Kinnean introduces him to doctors who want to use him for a trial there doing. They give him a bunch of tests and work with him. They decide he's a good candidate for the brain surgery.
- Falling Action
- Charlie gets the surgery and continues on. And eventually you see signs of him getting smarter and smarter. But as he gets smarter he begins losing friends and even his job.
- Resolution
- Once Algernon, the mouse who got the same surgery as him, became hostile and forgets things Charlie begins to research the mouse. They know whatever happens to Algernon will happen to him.
- Charlie begins to deteriorate. He forgets everything he learned and even forgets things he knew before. They realize this surgery won't work for him or anyone.
- Charlie is worse than he was before the surgery. He forgets basic things like how to read and write. Eventually he decides he doesn't want to be around people who remember him being a genius and he moves to New York.
