Storyboard Description
An example of natural selection and how it influences evolution.
Storyboard Text
The gazelles overproduce
There is variation
There is a predator
The gazelle species produce more offspring than will survive.
Natural Selection
There is variation in the speed trait so some gazelles are faster than others. This is due to mutation in the genes.
Adaptation
As it gets late, the cheetah nearby gets hungry. The gazelles are going to have to compete to survive.
Evolution
The cheetah attacks and only the fastest gazelles survive.
Only the faster gazelles live to reproduce, so they will pass their faster trait onto their children.
Over time, the population will increase in overall speed because only the fastest gazelles can reproduce.
